3 Ingredients to 'Break Up' with Blemishes

If you are wanting to improve the appearance of your skin look no further! Whether your suffering from oily skin, blemishes or hormonal breakouts, we have the top 3 ingredients which will help combat this.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic Acid (a BHA) which works on deep exfoliation and decongesting the skin. It works on tightening pores whilst helping to reduce whiteheads / blackheads which can be stubborn areas to treat! Salicylic Acid works on penetrating the skin, loosening the attachments between cells and the outer layer of the skin whilst helping to dissolve dead skin cells which can cause blemishes or congestion. It’s fantastic to use if you suffer from consistent blemishes or acne!

Salicylic Acid can be used in your evening routine underneath a moisturiser of your choice. You may be eager to add salicylic acid to your daily skincare routine, but it’s important to start out with minimal application when you’re first using it. Slowly build this into your evening routine to prevent irritation or reactions occurring. Once you have slowly introduced it into your routine, you will be able to increase your usage if needed.

Retinol

Although retinol is an ingredient which helps strengthen and tighten the skin, it is also used to treat acne, blemishes, scaring and pigmentation. Retinol works on resurfacing the top layer of skin speeding up cellular turnover, removing dead skin cells and replacing them with newly regenerated skin cells. It helps to even out skin texture and lighten pigmentation from past scaring or acne marks.

We would recommend to slowly introduce Retinol within your routine, use 1-2x per week in your evening routine and wear a high SPF the next day to prevent sun damage. Retinol and Salicylic Acid are both key active ingredients for blemishes. They both target different concerns on the skin so can be used in conjunction with one another just make sure you stick to 1 active per day so your skin can become familiar with the ingredients you are using, this will also prevent irritation or sensitivity.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid naturally holds 1000x its weight in water, it helps flood the skin with hydration and plumps the surface of our skin. Hyaluronic acid has a unique capacity to retain water and help regulate your skin’s moisture levels. This helps to keep your skin balanced and hydrated, no matter your skin type.

It’s important to retain the moisture balance within oily/breakout prone skin. The more hydration you give it, the less oil your skin produces naturally over time. This is a great ingredient for you to look out for especially if you have found moisturisers to be too heavy for your skin. It’s all about balance for a blemish/oily prone skin, using active ingredients can cause dryness or loss of moisture so it’s important to make sure we are putting the hydration back into the skin with lightweight hydrating ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid.
