At our Kate Somerville Clinic in Los Angeles, our Skin Health Experts are super passionate about skincare and take pride in innovating the latest products and treatments based on cutting-edge research, science, and the art of active ingredients. When we first started hearing about niacinamide, we dove headfirst into using this ingredient and formulating at-home products with it.
Today, niacinamide is considered a total powerhouse ingredient alongside the likes of Vitamin C and Retinol. It’s a real stand out because of its versatility so if it hasn’t caught your attention yet, it will after reading this!
What is Niacinamide?
Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3, so you may have seen it in other forms in your existing skincare products. It is a water-soluble vitamin that works within your skin to visibly help reduce the appearance of pores, uneven skin tone, fine lines, and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier, which can help reduce damage from environmental stressors such as pollution. The visible results? Skin looks bright & radiant.
Who is it for?
Niacinamide is a great ingredient for dry skin. Adding this in the form of a treatment or serum can boost moisture levels in the skin and prevent moisture loss which leads to dry and tight skin. For oily, blemish- prone skin, this clever vitamin is highly effective in treating post- blemish marks and pigmentation to reduce redness and uneven skin tone. A great addition for breakout prone skin to reduce those unwanted marks. Niacinamide also has the ability to regulate sebum production within the skin to support in preventing future breakouts.
If you’re concerned about visible pores, Niacinamide can help. It is an ingredient with lots of regulatory properties, one of which is the ability to regulate the lining of the pores. This means it can prevent blockages and pores clogging, leaving bumpy or rough skin. Through these regulating properties it can help maintain a healthy, and glowing complexion in more ways than one. When combined with other ingredients such as Retinol, those pore tightening benefits are even more visible!
And if all of that wasn’t enough, lets talk about how it treats uneven skin tone and pigmentation. These concerns are caused by excess melanin production within the skin, leaving uneven patches of pigment on the surface. Niacinamide can actually help to break up those patches of pigment to give skin tone a more even appearance. It is also a great preventative! Pair it with Vitamin C for the ultimate pigmentation treatment and prevention, as Vitamin C works as a melanin inhibitor for you to combat that pigmentation from every angle.
How can I add it to my routine?
Adding this incredible ingredient into your routine is so easy and will get you seeing results within a matter of days! Niacinamide is mostly found within serums and treatments, and is an ingredient that you can use AM and PM daily as it’s unlikely to cause any irritation to the skin.
One of our favourite products with niacinamide is Kate’s innovative Overnight Resurfacing Peel. Inspired by her in- clinic chemical peel treatments she uses to give clients that even, glowing complexion, this at home peel can be easily added into your routine 2-3 evenings per week to transform skin overnight for a glowing, glassy look and feel! This little tube of magic also contains retinol to resurface and retexturize skin, and glycolic acid to gently exfoliate. These three powerhouse ingredients really work hand in hand to give you the Hollywood glow without irritation. Kate’s innovative formula encapsulates the Retinol within a Ceramide to calm and restore skin so these three can work in harmony.
Combining this powerful peel with Kate’s ExfoliKate® range is the perfect way to unlock the glow the morning after using the peel. ExfoliKate® Cleanser contains AHA’s to gently remove any dead skin cells from the surface to boost radiance and uncover those overnight results.
